Hector Bibendum Floor Lamp
To celebrate the 21st anniversary of Original BTC Lighting and the centenary of Michelin House, Sir Terence Conran designed the Hector Bibendum Table Lamp for BTC. A sensitive, charming yet witty adaptation of the original bone-china model of the Hector light, the form of the new Hector Bibendum lamp is inspired by the corpulent shape of the iconic Michelin Man and the signature cotton-braided flex of Original BTC Lighting.
‘Having restored the eponymous Fulham Road building to its former glory in 1985, Terence Conran and the Michelin Man are indelibly linked’, explains the manufacturer’s founder, Peter Bowles. ‘My goal is to produce lights that will fit easily and comfortably for years to come and the Michelin Man’s longevity sits perfectly with this ethos’. This limited edition piece, commissioned by BTC, is a fitting tribute to a relationship between Terence Conran and Original BTC that has lasted over 20 years.
‘The Conran Shop was one of the first retailers to stock their products, many of which can be spotted in our restaurants, hotels and contract projects’ explains Sir Terence. Slipcast by hand at the Stoke-on-Trent factory of Original BTC, the bone-china shade and base are dipped in glaze after biscuit-firing to achieve the high –gloss finish, and assembled together with a satin aluminium pole and cotton-braided cable. The Hector Bibendum Table Lamp takes E27 40WATT GLS bulbs, which are not included.
