New Objectivity Stool
Conceived to take advantage of traditional craftsmanship and new technical possibilities, the New Objectivity Stool blends hand finishing and saddlery with three axis CNC Routing. The base’s five egg shaped cut-outs are made possible by the machine’s ability to guide the cutter simultaneously in x, y and z directions, while the use of saddlery gives the stool a sturdy, evocative and comfortable finish.
The Base: Solid walnut is blocked together at 90 degrees for stability and the material is sent with the Solid Works design files for processing on a Five Axis CNC machine. Following machining it is sanded by hand to remove all the machining marks, polished and oiled.
The Top: A beech form with a hollowed top is worked by a saddler using traditional saddlery sundries including specialist webbing, foam, felt and leather.
The delivery time for the New Objectivity Stool is six to eight weeks as each ottoman is made to order in a small workshop in the UK. Please e-mail shop@designmuseum.org for a shipping quote.
