Sugru's 'Hack things better' motto reinforces ni Dhulchaointigh's aim of providing a tool for a community of people no longer content with 'designer products and consumer culture. These people want to repair, improve and personalise instead of buying new things. Ni Dhulchaointigh sees this as a design revolution by non-designers who take control over their possessions to make them function better for themselves. The results are not only practical, but intriguing and surprising.

Jane ni Dhulchaointigh invented Sugru (then called Formerol) while at the Royal College of Art. Since then her story has been one of hard work and determination, finally seeing it hit the market this year. Her belief in the product is well justified: Sugru is a great enabling invention that could well be on a par with Sellotape, Blu-tack, and Post-its. Sugru is a special type of silicone putty which hardens over a couple of hours to leave a waterproof, durable, soft to the touch solid a little like rubber. It can be used to mend things, stick things together, patch up holes, and create any number of custom-made add -ons to existing products.From bettering sporting equipment t making crutches more comfortable of fixing an old teapot, the uses are endless. From by hand - no tool needed.

Cures at room temperature Sugru is like modeling clay when you take it from its pack. Once it's exposed to air, it cures to a tough flexible silicone overnight using the moisture in the air. Working time = 30 mins. Cure time = 24hrs (3-5mm deep).

Dishwasher proof Once it's cured, Sugru is pretty much like other silicones - durable in the harsh soapy conditions of your washing machine and dishwasher.

Loves a bit of heat (or cold) resistant from -60°C to + 180°C. It gets hot and cold but it won't get softer or harder or melt.
