The playful restraint of the beautifully made wooden sailboats, motor cars and aeroplanes designed by Ulf Hanses for the Swedish manufacturer Playsam in bold colours and simple shapes is typical of the designer’s work. Born in Djura outside the Swedish town of Borlange, Hanses trained in Stockholm as an assistant to the industrial designer Sigvard Bernadotte. After seven years in Stockholm, he returned to Borlange to open his own design studio where he develops wooden toys for Playsam and other products.
