Crime - A Series of Extraordinary Interviews Exposing the World of Crime - Real and Imagined.

Not a book about design, but definitely a great design book, actually, just a really great book. Exceptional graphic team Fuel have designed and published this book by Alix Lambert, which partially relates to their obsession with Soviet culture seen in previous books such as Notes From Russia and the Russian Criminal Tattoos series.

Lambert has undertaken a huge number of interviews with criminals, actors, film directors, writers, artists, drug addicts and convicts on the subject of crime, resulting in first hand tales and memories that are often shocking and revealing, especially the way they are presented here. As you read it, the interviewees begin to seem strangely interconnected, and concepts overlap until a broad, grim portrait of the darker tendancies of humanity takes shape.

From a deeply disturbed mass murderer's tales of decapitation through to film director David Cronenberg's insights into the criminal mind (note the connection to his superb 2007 film Eastern Promises, about Russian gangsters in London), it's the range of interviewees bought together here that elevates this from a one trick journalistic project to a fascinating insight into the subject.

Naturally, being a Fuel project, the book itself is pure candy - a solid hardback, stunning layout with great photography and typefaces throughout.

For a voyeristic and intriging read, we can't recommend this book enough. Simply excellent.
