School of Life: A Job to Love – I’m still here.
I love the School of Life because of their educational mission and variety of products dedicated to self-development and introspection. When I first saw some shining new copies of A Job to Love among other products, I knew I had to have it, because then finally I’d solve the mystery of what I really want to do with my life when I grow up. I bought it right away and started reading the same day during dinner, but abandoned it some twenty minutes later when I realised there is no easy solution. How come? The authors want us to think, give a lot of mental exercises, so you travel back and forth in time wondering what natural skills you have, what types of jobs were attractive to you as a child, and how the social context could influence those decisions. I believe this book doesn’t give you easy answers, but broadens your horizons, allows you to think wider about resources you already possess, and understand where they’re coming from. I reached the last page and guess what, I’m still at the Design Museum! Is it possible this book allowed me to understand that it’s not such a bad place to work?
