A Creative Collaboration
At the Design Museum shop we aim to sell the most beautiful, innovative and intelligently designed products and publications from around the world. We run around, read, look, listen, and search and scour the world for the most exciting designers and aim to bring, even if it’s only a small piece, of what, they are doing to our shelves.
Every book and product has a story; from its conception and contributors to the manufacture, printing and packaging. There is a collaboration of different design disciplines that results in the objects that surround us in our daily lives. The Design Museum Shop is the final stage, bringing the product to you the consumer to take home and use. It is our aim in the shop to present you with the best; products that work, provide solutions and are inherently beautiful. Well-designed products that are built to last.
As a designer it may be a decade or six until you get a retrospective exhibition in the main gallery but the shop can offer a stepping stone for upcoming designers. We are proud of the designers we work with, they represent the best in their fields and we are always delighted by the new talents we meet every day. All proceeds from shop sales go directly to funding the Design Museum and its exhibitions and activities. We hope to get bigger with our constantly evolving online shop and our move to the new Design Museum in the former Commonwealth Institute in 2014.
We feel passionately about where materials are sourced, the processes and skills involved in production, paper stock and typefaces, the designers involved and we definitely care whether it looks good...and yes you should sniff new books.
