'If' by Harland Miller Limited Edition Rug

‘If’ by Harland Miller is a special commission for WWF (Worldwide Fund for Nature), created to raise awareness and funds for the conservation of tigers in the wild. From an estimated population of around 100,000 a century ago, wild tiger numbers fell to an all-time low of as few as 3,200 in 2010. That same year, the governments of all 13 tiger-range countries came together to address the decline, establishing an ambitious and united conservation programme.

The art project ‘Tomorrow’s Tigers’ was launched in 2019 by Artwise Curators in support of WWF, helping to generate further funding and awareness for the plight of the tiger. Twelve artists were commissioned to design art rugs inspired by antique and mystical tiger rugs from Tibet, reimagined through contemporary approaches.

Working with rug fabricators Christopher Farr, each piece is handmade by master craftspeople in the hills of Northern India using the finest wools and silks. Incorporating innovative weaving techniques and specialist hand-dyeing, these rugs push the boundaries of weaving as an art form while realising the vision of each participating artist.
