  • This original archive poster advertises a 1985 exhibition at the Boilerhouse: the first iteration of the Design Museum funded by the Conran Foundation.
  • The exhibition was a critique of the car by the eminent German graphic designer Otl Aicher.
  • The show was advertised as ‘the problems of defending the automobile against its worshippers’ and took a provocative position. Aicher’s argument was that designers were too fixated on the styling and appearance of cars when they should be focussing on efficiency instead.
  • Designed by Michael Burke with photography by Martyn Goddard.
  • Please note that these are original archive prints rather than reproductions, so may exhibit small markings.
